Barrier freedom does not only concern wheelchair users, hearing-impaired one, visually handicapped and learning disabled people. Ever more people are permanently or occasionally reduced in their mobility and thus dependent on barrier freedom in our society.

Barrier freedom is compellingly necessary for approximately 10% of people living in Berlin.

In addition the increasing number of the retirees, households with infants, traveler with heavy luggage, strongly overweight and frail people, temporarily or permanently gotten sick one and partially also special occupational groups. Therefor the development is important and helpful for the barrier-free infrastructure of the city for approximately a third of the population.

For all other subpopulations barrier freedom is comfortable. For Berlin barrier freedom is also an expression of modernity, world openness and hospitality and represents in the comparison with other metropolises a valuable image gain.
